Today marks a full week of working from home for many people in Denmark and the world – including us at Open. We have learnt a lot working from 35 offices instead of two and would love to share how we are making this work. You know, it’s mostly about communicating, and if we may say so ourselves: we know a thing or two about that.
Here are our tips:
1. Don’t forget you’re a team! This is about culture and belonging. We start every morning with a 15-minute, all-Open meeting – virtually of course.
2. Remember that personal, social relationships matter too. We have gotten to know each other in a new way during this time, and it helps our relationships. One concrete thing we do is tour-de-chambers, where we take turns to show our colleagues our homes and how we have arranged work. Total favourite. Also, virtual shared lunches and coffee-breaks go a long way in keeping our extra-extroverts from going cuckoo.
3. Exceptional times require exceptional approaches. We are home-schooling our 44 kids and working at the same time, like superhumans! Or how was it again? Patience and understanding go a long way. Plus: routines. They keep us sane.
